Custom Training Solution
SharePoint Services
One of our Northwest Arkansas clients presented the training problem of how to best train employees on the use of a new, internal SharePoint Portal created by the IT department. The portal’s design was good and the implementation was executed well, but the general employees had no previous exposure to the capabilities of a web portal. Through several conversations with the IT department, the New Horizons Account Executive and Training Consultant determined that a standard class outline would not meet the needs of this client. We arranged for a Microsoft Certified Trainer with portal experience to create a custom half-day training event. This training was designed in collaboration with the head of the IT department, who was able to take an active role in shaping the training objectives to best suit the needs of the company’s employees. Six training sessions were delivered and over 45 individuals trained on the custom SharePoint Portal solution.

Technical Closed Class Solutions
UNIX Programming and Server 2003 Training
Some of our clients prefer to book closed training events. These closed training sessions are not open to the public and give our clients the opportunity to customize the class outline and/or discuss issues private to the company. We have had several clients take advantage of our closed training solutions; here are two examples.
One client needed a slightly customized UNIX programming class delivered to their employees. Two departments within the organization pooled together and had ten students attend the event. Our ability to offer a closed event allowed this client to have the training delivered on their timeline, and we were able to provide a highly qualified instructor who tailored the class to meet the specific needs faced by that company.
A second client required closed training classes on Windows Server 2003 to allow for the private discussion of company-specific technology. The students and instructor were able to conduct class without outside parties gaining information about the company’s information technology systems. In addition, non-applicable material was removed from the standard class outlines for an efficient use of employee (student) time.
We understand the need for privacy in some training situations and are able to meet the security needs of your specific training classes, including network security, hard drive erasure, and non-disclosure agreements.

Mentored Learning
Customize your Technical Learning Experience
Several of our Arkansas clients recently completed our Server 2003 Mentored Learning classes in December. The major advantage of Mentored Learning to the IT professional is the flexibility of the course pacing and content. Whereas students in a traditional instructor-led class are constrained to the outline and pace set by the whole class, students in Mentored Learning can review or pause lectures, take as much or as little time as necessary to complete a lab, and focus on the material that is most relevant to their specific needs. These classes are recognized by Microsoft as certified, instructor-led classes and qualify for Software Assurance training vouchers.
Each student in the December classes completed the lecture portion of class at their own pace, then completed on-line labs, review questions, and hands-on Server 2003 labs. A Microsoft Certified Trainer specializing in the classes being taught was in the room at all times and available for one-on-one interaction, guidance, and topic discussion.
Not every student learns at the same pace or in the same way. Our new Mentored Learning approach allowed our students to customize their instructor-led class to best meet their needs, and gave them more individual time with the instructor than a traditional class would have allowed.
